Guy Bridge

Devon to Folkestone is 400 km of English south coast. Guy Bridge, 26, from Exmouth in Devon, parawing-foiled the whole of it in 19 hours 48 minutes on the water, as reported by BBC Devon. That stands as the single biggest endurance statement the sport has produced so far. He is an Armstrong Foils team rider, previously with AFS.

Where he comes from

Bridge grew up in the “Team Bridge” household, a family name UK wind and kite people will recognise, and made his name as a competitive kitesurfer (Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton speed racing included) before moving into foiling. He rides with his wife Emma Bridge, 30, who ran land support and filming on the 400 km run.

The 400 km run

The Devon-to-Folkestone downwinder is the reference point for what a parawing lets one rider do unsupported on open coastline. Documented setup: Armstrong 3.6 m parawing, UHA 770 and PM-X 795 foils, 8’2 Downwind Ocean board. Nearly 20 hours of accumulated water time over 400 km proves something a race result can’t. It says the stash-and-glide workflow holds up when the run is measured in days, not heats. Outside the Armstrong quiver he also rides Code X-series small mid-aspect foils (around 0.2 AR, the same low-aspect Code family Daniel Paronetto rides).

Bridge appeared on the LabRat Foiler Podcast, episode 033, covering parawing wave riding and progression. One point of record from that interview: Armstrong’s own parawing was still “in the pipeline” at the time.
